More than a Boxing Club: Westway ABC

In late 2025, the SJT collaborated with Westway Boxing Club and North Yorkshire Council to create a short documentary about the club. The film was created by SJT Associate Director Chantell Walker and filmed by local filmmaker Matthew Storm.It focusses on the story of the Westway Boxing Club, an amateur boxing club based in Eastfield.
Boxing clubs like Westway Boxing Club aren’t there just to create champions. Grassroots boxing clubs like Westway can give young people a sense of purpose and belonging.
Boxing gyms can be a home and a safe space for many. The film highlights the important work the club does with the community of Eastfield and raises awareness of the importance of grassroots boxing clubs to their local communities.
