This autumn, the largest-ever masterpiece by Franco-Chinese artist Zao Wou-Ki will be on offer at Sotheby's auction room at its Modern Art Evening Sale on 30 September 2018. Measuring 10 metres long and 2.8 metres in height, this monumental and exceedingly rare triptych was commissioned personally by celebrated architect I. M. Pei for Raffles City in Singapore.

It is no exaggeration to say that Zao Wou-Ki is one of the very few Chinese Modern artists whose recognition has ascended to a global level. In the past few decades, works by Zao Wou-Ki have been widely collected by institutions in Europe, America and Asia, and have been exhibited in major retrospectives.

Sound design for this motion graphics particles based VFX film. As the brush strokes are brought to life, it was important to capture the richness and fluidity of the colour and movement. The goal was to sonically represent the dynamic ebb and flow experienced onscreen.

To get the right intensity and depth of sound, a huge amount of work went into layering sounds to build low, mid and high frequency range sweeps. Pitch and frequency cut off automation were used to emulate the slow downs of time seen on various shots. This kept sounds fluctuating and never being too static.
