Marcos Savignano is a well known and respected freelancer in the U.K motion graphics community. He approached me to create some bespoke music for his long overdue 2020 showreel.

A musical reference track helped convey Marcos's initial musical direction, providing a stylistic foundation on which to explore. 18 revisions later, the finished original music was complete! Personal to Marcos is his Brazilian heritage, thererfore the core rhythm of the music is based on a samba beat. The main melody features an exotic, tiny bell-like piano instrument which helps to give the music a more unique and exotic sound. Various Brazilian percussive sounds like the Cuica are featured, as well as more traditional instruments (guitar, bass, drums, violin etc). Vocal harmonies were sketched out by myself.

The sound design introduces the colourful textures of the opening scene to the viewer. Bringing the scene to life with bright objects and relevant sounds trigger a chain reaction of fluidity, helped along with a musical melody synchronised to the cylinder falling down the path. Once the motion stops and the logo moves into place, the music track kick starts the reel content.
